Women CAN enhance their business

in a sluggish economy

Kauffman FastTrac® offers course tailored to women-owned businesses

With the start of a new year, there’s no better time to begin or grow a business, especially for women. In fact, there are more than 8.1 million women-owned businesses in the U.S., generating nearly $1.3 trillion in revenues and employing nearly 7.7 million people. By 2020, it is expected that 870 million women will gain employment or start their own businesses.

Beginning this February, Kauffman FastTrac will offer women-only courses specifically designed to help female entrepreneurs’ startup or grow their new or existing businesses. FastTrac® NewVenture™ is a course that helps aspiring entrepreneurs evaluate their business idea and build a plan to take it to market. FastTrac® GrowthVenture™ is a course that helps existing entrepreneurs establish a renewed strategic vision to grow their company.

Both courses will be offered at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center starting February 1 and will run for 10 consecutive weeks every Wednesday evening. Participants will gain business skills and insights, tools and resources to start and grow successful companies. Additionally, for these women-only courses, entrepreneurs can expect to learn ways to improve their negotiation skills, discuss the importance of building a board of directors or advisors and take away tips for building their personal professional networks, among other lessons. Last year, the recession didn’t stop Delena Stout from ramping up her business, Brookside Barkery, in Kansas City, Missouri. Stout, a FastTrac alumna, attributes much of her business success to her participation in the course.

“I don’t let the economy become an excuse when it comes to increasing my client base,” said Stout. “It becomes a challenge that I want to overcome which motivates me to do more.”
