September 03, 2014
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Sept. 3, 2014 ) — According to a study by the U.S. Small Business Association, more than 45 percent of veterans start businesses after their military careers end. To support these veterans, Kauffman FastTrac® is offering a complimentary 10-week entrepreneurship course for U.S. military veterans. FastTrac® NewVenture™ for the Veteran Entrepreneur is designed to teach the skills needed to successfully launch a business. To date, FastTrac has educated nearly 500 veterans as they pursue innovative business ideas and turn them into realities.
“Veterans possess some of the most important skills needed to become successful entrepreneurs,” said Michele Markey, vice president of Kauffman FastTrac. “Leadership experience, and the ability to calculate risk, manage teams and take initiative are invaluable characteristics of successful business owners. Pairing these traits with Kauffman FastTrac’s sophisticated coursework and robust resources prepare veterans to tackle the day-to-day challenges that come with starting a business.”
“Kauffman FastTrac brought in experts to share their knowledge about the truths and risks of opening a business,” said Luis Olmo Jimenez, U.S. military veteran and a FactTrac graduate. “I would recommend the course to members of the military. I am thankful for the time Kauffman FastTrac spent teaching me a new trade and for giving me the tools to be successful in the future.”
