As Baby Boomers Reach Retirement, Many Turn to Entrepreneurship as Next Adventure
Kauffman FastTrac® offers new course tailored to those 50 and older
Contrary to popular belief, research shows that since 1996, Americans between the ages of 55 and 64 have had a higher rate of entrepreneurial activity than those aged 20-34. With many in this age bracket reaching retirement, but still wanting to work, entrepreneurship is an increasingly popular choice.
Beginning this September, Kauffman FastTrac will offer a new course specifically designed to help baby boomer entrepreneurs start up their businesses. The customized FastTrac® NewVenture™ course helps aspiring entrepreneurs evaluate their business idea and build a plan to take it to market.
The course will be held in Kansas City at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center starting September 6 and meet on 10 consecutive Thursday nights. Participants will gain business skills and insights, tools and resources to start and grow successful companies. Additionally, for this boomer-only course, entrepreneurs can expect to learn ways to improve their negotiation skills, explore the importance of financing a business and take away tips for building both personal and professional networks, among other lessons. “The FastTrac NewVenture for the Boomer Entrepreneur course is an engaging and immersive way for boomers who have a business idea to get started,” said Michele Markey, vice president of Kauffman FastTrac. “They will graduate the course with an actionable plan for their business, financial goals and projections and many resources to use as they launch. We are thrilled to be able to serve this experienced audience.”
